Deadly Spheres

Spheres, having the lowest surface-area-to-volume ratio, posses the highest malevolence-to-volume ratio of any three dimensional shape.

The Demon Core

The Demon Core was a softball sized sphere of plutonium that was crucial to the success of the Manhattan Project in the 1940s. It was said to emit a steady stream of whispering, speaking of nuclear physics topics such as subcritical multiplication and the probability of thermal non-leakage. These whispers were critical in correcting multiple errors in the design of the Trinity test as well as the atomic bombs used on Japan at the end of WWII. Two scientists, Harry Daghlian and Louis Slotin, were felled by hubris in their attempts to wield the core to their own ends.

It was finally destroyed in 1946 due to its opposition to the production of "super" hydrogen bombs.
